Why I Am a Private Pay Practice
Choosing not to work with insurance companies is a decision I made thoughtfully, and one I believe benefits the people I work with.
When therapy is not filtered through insurance, our work together is guided entirely by your needs. There is no requirement to assign a diagnosis in order to justify your care, no obligation to share your treatment plan or personal history with a third party, and no predetermined limit on the number of sessions you are allowed to have. Decisions about the pace, focus, and length of our work are made by you and me, not by an insurance company's guidelines.
This also means that information about your treatment stays between us. Insurance billing requires disclosing diagnoses, symptoms, and treatment plans to a third party, and those records can have implications you may not anticipate. Keeping our work private is something I take seriously.
I work primarily with grief and loss. Grief is not always reimbursable under insurance, and I believe the support people need while navigating loss should never be constrained by what a policy will or won't cover.
Superbills
While I do not bill insurance directly, I am happy to provide a monthly superbill — a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
I encourage you to contact your insurance provider in advance to understand your out-of-network benefits.
